Our gallery was founded in Ginza in 1969 as a gallery that handles Impressionist to contemporary art, and opened in Paris and Osaka two years later. And on the memorable day of our Paris store's 2021th anniversary in 50, we opened our Kyoto store to introduce up-and-coming Japanese artists to the world. This time we will be holding an exhibition titled Tricolore, where we will introduce new works with a French theme.
In 1867, many Japanese works of art attracted attention at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, which Japan participated in for the first time. The discovery of these attractions, as exemplified by Monet and Van Gogh, is the beginning of cultural exchange between the two countries.Despite its influence, the Japanese have always recognized and praised French sensibilities in fields such as cooking and fashion as well as art.In this exhibition, you will be able to see various French expressions by contemporary Japanese artists, a country that has had a strong cultural influence on each other.
France is the only country in Japan to have a consulate in Kyoto, and Kyoto first established a sister city relationship with its capital, Paris, in 1958.In Kyoto, which has deep ties to France, we hope that you will enjoy France in your own way and realize that people's imagination can expand in so many ways.
