We will be holding a two-person exhibition by young artists based in Kansai, Takuya Otsuki and Shu Okamoto.
Both of them completed the master's course in Japanese painting at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts, and have mastered Japanese painting skillfully by using Japanese painting techniques and materials to create works derived from reproductions of old paintings. I'm trying to reinterpret and update it.
On September 9th, the last day of the exhibition, a special exhibition will be held at night when the gallery is normally closed, allowing you to view the works together with the artist.

Takuya Otsuki, Shu Okamoto

Takuya Otsuki
Born in Nara Prefecture in 1989. In 2020, completed the master's program in Japanese painting, Kyoto City University of Arts.
By arranging simplified symbol-like iconography on the screen that is created through repeated acts of imitation, such as sketching landscapes and objects, or copying old paintings, he considers the relationship between iconography and space in paintings.

Hide Okamoto
Born in Nara Prefecture in 1995. In 2020, completed the master's program in Japanese painting, Kyoto City University of Arts.
He mainly works with two-dimensional images, such as paintings with roots in manga and Japanese art.
