New Lifestyle

From Villa Kujoyama artists in residence and collaborators, comes an introduction to New Lifestyle. Get a taste of new object production, completed through researching traditions that are a continuation of the past, this exhibition offers new applications for art in daily life.

-Created based on a collaboration between Felipe Ribon and gold and silver craftsman Nicolas Marischael, is Osmos a large-scale silver perfume diffuser. This exhibition will be held together with Ryoko Sekiguchi’s lecture on her soon to be published work on food. - Created based on Émilie Pedron and Shiro Shimizu’s collaboration with Dairik Amari, is this special chawan made for Nuit Blanche. Using clay found near the Villa Kujoyama area, the piece was fired at a low temperature using charcoal in order to bring the raw materials to life. The work is based on the concept that it will be returned to the earth after its use.
- From Anne Xiradakis comes Café éphémère. While an artist in residence at Villa Kujoyama, she collaborated with wagashi maker Sayoko Sugiyama to create this offering of wagashi on tableware.
- Laëtitia Badaut Haussmann is researching French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand’s time in Japan (1940-42). This exhibition introduces objects and pictures from lectures Charlotte Perriand gave in 1941 while she was in Japan.
- From Olivier Sévère, comes this video installation on marble production process called En substance. In the natural world water exerts a large influence on stone, and recent research activities connect to this video. This video recorded while Sévère was a Villa Kujoyama artist in residence, show the process of creating works.
- Introducing The Ferryman created by Damien Jalet and Gilles Delmas while an artist in residence at Villa Kujoyama. The choreographed video features not just the search for the origin of animism rituals but an investigation into the correlation between dance, carving, and contemporary art.
- Benjamin Lafore and Sébastien Martinez Baratare of the French architecture firm Martinez Barat Lafore Architectes held a workshop together with Kyoto City University of Arts (KCUA) professor and architect Kosuke Bando and KCUA students and the results of this workshop will be announced as part of the New Lifestyle exhibition.

Based on a planned colaboration with Institut français du Japon - Kansai / Kyoto, designer Teruhiro Yanagihara and Netherland designers Scholten & Baijing direct this project exhibition and installation.
