Performance: Soldier’s Tale / Ronin’s Tale

A mix media performance celebrating the 100th anniversary of L'Histoire du soldat or The Soldier’s Tale (30 min) by Igor Stravinsky and Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz, paired with the first performance of a new production, Ronin’s Tale (30 min), created by composer and conductor Yannick Paget with the same motifs. This is a collaboration making use of video, narration, and a 7-musician (clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, trombone, violin, contrabass and percussion) musical performance to explore anew, a hundred years later, this timeless myth, creating a tale for our time, a contemporary version of the Faust myth. Combining video by Alexandre Maubert (Villa Kujoyama 2012 Resident), script and narration by Sébastien Raizer, and programming by Sagar Patel in this first appearance of N: So Kyoto in a musical performance. In 2017 who has become the soldier of Stravinsky? The temptation to sell our soul to the devil is timeless...
