Opening Act: Musical Performance by Juki on Tsugaru Shamisen

Juki is actively performing at music festivals and events centered in Kyoto and around the Kansai area. Also as a subway performer, Juki plays on weekends in Karasuma Oike Station and Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station. We challenge you to see how much you can enjoy time-honored Japanese folk songs and other traditional music. Please enjoy these Japanese melody lines.

Solo Musical Performance by Michel DENEUVE on the Cristal Baschet

French sculptors, the Baschet Brothers, invented a process of making unique works of «sound sculpture» that are both sculptures and instruments. Among those works is an instrument called the Cristal Baschet which will be used in a performance of a work by the well-known composer Michel Deneuve who has come all the way from France! From the foremost musician searching for new potential within the Cristal Baschet, welcome to a strange world full of enticingly unique sound.

Projection Mapping

As part of Machi Deco International’s project to decorate the cityscape in images, Tsukune Harumaki presents new works taken and adapted from the winners of the projecting mapping competition Okazaki Tokiakari Awards 2016 to be displayed on the walls of the Kyoto International Manga Museum.

MAKOTO is a jazz singer, and was previously a geisha in Gion Kobu. Art is an expression of gratitude and these songs are sung from the heart with the Kyoto expresion of okini ♡

Favorite works screened at Machi Deco International performances from 2009-2016 will be shown in this special encore presentation. Artists include Yasuhiro Omi, Akinori Ueno + Atsushi Matsumoto, Kiyotaka Yoshimitsu, Akio Kamisato, and phenographics.

Musical Performance: Cristal Baschet & Shakuhachi; Cristal Baschet & Vocals (Vocal Performance)

The world’s first performance of the song BYAQYA by Kazuko Okada and Michel Deneuve. Miraculous sound fired like beams of light from the Cristal Baschet (Michel Deneuve) together with the sound of the Shakuhachi (Takeo Izumi) like the wind blowing across a field uncover an unsinking sun of a white night.
Cristal Voice is an improvisational performance of Cristal Baschet and vocals (Chie Kitamura). This night of Cristal sound sculptures is bound to leave you captivated.
